Lydia Nau

Lydia Nau is a teacher from Minneapolis who has been playing the cello for eleven years. She began studying piano at a young age, and soon shifted to cello to eventually begin individual studies. During school, Lydia was a part of many honors orchestras and competitions, including Minnesota Youth Symphonies, GTCYS, MMEA All-State Orchestra, and more. She is currently earning her degree in Cello Performance from the University of Minnesota where she has studied under Tanya Remenikova and Matt Haimovitz.

She has also studied in Vienna, Austria with members of the Vienna Symphony. She has been a part of numerous recordings, including a work in the recently released “Neighbors - EP” by Matt Haimovitz and Uccello. Lydia is a dedicated teacher, who has completed many fundamental music education courses, and has experience in working with families and providing instrument care. In her teaching, she prioritizes the students' enjoyment of the music, and teaches effective practice skills.

It is important that students have fun playing their instrument, and she seeks to give students freedom in discovering and choosing music they enjoy. When not in school, Lydia substitutes for groups like Golden Valley Orchestra, and gigs across the Twin Cities metro area.
