Anna Kim began her violin studies at the age of seven in Wichita, Kansas, under the tutelage of Ms. Laura Black. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she studies with Sally O’Reilly as a recipient of the Berneking Fellowship. Ms. Kim holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance (2025) and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education (with teacher certification) and Violin Performance (2022) at Texas Tech University, all earned on full scholarships and teaching assistantships under the mentorship of Dr. John Gilbert. During her studies at TTU, Ms. Kim was active as a board member in the Student Chapter of American String Teachers Association (ASTA), an ambassador in the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts, and as a principal position in the University Symphony Orchestra. As a dedicated performer and pedagogue, Ms. Kim has performed in masterclasses for Charles Castleman, Annie Chalex Boyle, and Elmira Darvarova. In 2021, Ms. Kim was the recipient of the 2021 ASTA Student Exemplary Service Award. In 2022, following a competitive national audition, she was chosen as one of two performers for the ASTA National Conference Masterclass in Atlanta, GA. As a performer, she has participated in the Castleman Quartet Program, the Pienza Music Festival (Italy) for four seasons, and the Albuquerque Tango Music Festival for two seasons. She performs regularly with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and currently serves as principal in the University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestra.
